The research cooperation between the Chairs of Inorganic Chemistry (Prof. Slabon) and Food Chemistry (Prof. Schebb) at the University of Wuppertal has achieved groundbreaking progress in the sustainable production of organic chemicals from wood. The publication entitled "Organic Chemicals from Wood: Selective Depolymerization and Dearomatization of Lignin via Aqueous Electrocatalysis" describes an innovative method for the simultaneous depolymerisation and dearomatisation of lignin by electrocatalysis in an aqueous medium under standard conditions.
