Introductory Training for the International Chemistry Olympiad at BUW

08.04.2026|17:57 Uhr

The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is a global competition for students in general education schools up to the age of 20. It has been held annually in a different country since 1967. Teams of four from over 90 nations compete against one another, tackling theoretical and practical chemistry problems. In addition to the competition, the focus is particularly on promoting international understanding.

Students generally acquire the necessary chemistry knowledge on their own. To support them, the Chemistry and Biology Department offers an introductory program consisting of three preparatory seminars in April, May, and June. During these sessions, interested students not only have the opportunity to receive targeted introductions to relevant topics but also to get to know the University of Wuppertal firsthand.
By visiting the campus, students can already get a first impression of what studying the natural sciences entails and what everyday life at a university looks like. In addition to the seminars, there is also the opportunity to explore the campus, talk with faculty and students, and take a look inside the labs. Thus, the introductory training serves not only as academic preparation for the Chemistry Olympiad but also as an exciting opportunity to experience the University of Wuppertal as a potential (future) place of study.

This year’s dates are:

  • April 24, 2026, 3:00–6:00 p.m.: Inorganic Chemistry (Björn Beele)
  • May 29, 2026, 3:00–6:00 p.m.: Physical Chemistry (Hendrik Kersten)
  • June 19, 2026, 3:00–6:00 p.m.: Organic Chemistry (Felix Strieth-Kalthoff)

The seminars will take place in Room V.08.001 in Building V (ground floor).
