Opening of the planting system in the inner courtyard of Building V on 1 August 2024

26.07.2024|10:02 Uhr

A plant system in the courtyard - what's it all about? The plant system contains the systematic groups into which plant species are categorised and makes their relationships visible. Sounds boring? Not at all, because it shows the development of land plants over the last 500 million years - an evolution of land plants in 5 acts (plant boxes).

Since the move to the new Building V, the plant boxes in the inner courtyard have been used by the Molecular Plant Research / Plant Biochemistry group (Botany) under the direction of Prof Dr Gertrud Lohaus.

However, as extreme conditions prevail in this inner courtyard (e.g. one third of the area is always in the shade of the buildings), it took some time before a plant system with different plant families could be created.

But now the time has come: in the inner courtyard of Building V there is a plant system with small mosses and ferns in the shade and sun-hungry lavender in the sunnier areas.

The plant system will be presented and opened on 1 August 2024 at 5.00 pm.

All interested parties are cordially invited to attend!
